In recent years, the field of “health communications” has gained special scientific and global credibility. This field is a link between the two fields of communication and health, and they are: raising awareness and influencing society regarding health issues based on a well-organized plan. The goal of this communication is to prevent diseases and improve the health and quality of life of the people in the community. In addition, health communications seeks to make health the first priority for people. People need to improve their knowledge about various diseases, such as causative factors, prevention and control methods, disease definition, diagnostic measures, and treatment strategies. The level of health literacy in Iranian society is low. Health experts in the country believe that despite the high level of information in the field of health, the level of awareness and application of public knowledge in this field is not very satisfactory. The results of a nationwide survey show that the level of health literacy in the country is 29 percent; A worrying statistic that could be a warning sign for the country’s health situation.
Health tourism is not tourism and health, it is tourism for health. A person travels to another country with the aim of improving their health! It is clear that medical care in another country is directly related to tourism activities. Because the patient enters a new cultural environment and has a desire to visit the city and tourist attractions, have fun and buy souvenirs.

In general, short and fast treatment time, quality of treatment, advanced treatment technology, experienced doctor, reasonable price, easy and worry-free travel and sometimes tourist attractions of the destination country are the main motivations for medical trips of various patients.
Due to its high standards in medical research and medical services, Iran’s medical tourism has become popular in the world. Also, the low cost of treatment has made Iran an important tourist destination. Based on the analysis of the costs of various stages, it has been concluded that the costs of treatment in Iran are much lower than in developed countries. Iran is also very competitive in terms of price compared to its regional competitors, including Turkey, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Southeast Asian countries.
